Vimeo Launches Profiles

Vimeo is a great platform for uploading and showcasing your videos. Although YouTube is still the reigning leader, Vimeo has been the way for many movie-makers to show the world what they have to offer.

Vimeo has also made some changes over the years. They've added View on Demand, which allows people to pay to view certain movies or documentaries and the creators to make a decent amount of profit. On the downside, if you're a non-paying user, they've removed the secret-link function that you can send a client for approval, similar to the YouTube's "unlisted" feature that keeps it under wraps for the client to give the go-ahead.

They've come a long way. And most recently, they've launched profiles. You as a user can now create a profile featuring 10 of your videos. According to them, this is just the start, and they're waiting for community feedback. This is now for all users, regardless  of membership type.

What's New:

  • A cleaner layout: The focus is on the videos. Links to your bio are now displayed as icons under your profile picture.
  • Cover videos: Instead of cover photos, get a cover video. You can choose which one of your videos to use and easily create a silent looping video to play at the top of your profile page.
  • Featured videos: Choose ten videos you want to be featured on your profile.

This direction is good for video and film creators. It's a way to share your work in a professional way, rather than sending a link to some of your videos independently. Check it out here.
