I had long heard stories of vast swarms of sea nettles, a type of stinging jelly fish, being found off the coast of California in abundance. Sea nettles can grow tentacles as much as 15 ft long, which pack a powerful sting if they come in contact with any exposed skin.
It wasn't until a dive in Monterey Bay that I was able to experience them in full. For the entire 60 minute dive, I watched this endless wall of jelly fish drifting by, occasionally swimming out from the shelter of the kelp forest to try to capture a frame.
