Cabezon

The oil rigs off the coast of Southern California are one of the most unique dives I have done. These artificial reefs are rich in marine life, with every inch of the structure being covered in sponges, anemones or brittle stars.

They are also rich for fish life, and pictured here is a cabezon raising his dorsal fin, letting me know I'm getting too close for comfort. This was an interesting encounter; the fish became interested in some green rope I had tied to my camera rig and swam toward me to take an investigative bite.
