One last glimpse

8 vertical panorama rows, 158 pictures, each picture 42 Megapixels, about 6.6 Gigapixel in total of which about 3 were used in this photograph. The whole picture in this cropped version has +175 MP (most MP were lost due to overlapping). These are the facts about this image - one of my largest photographs yet.

The Falkert, the mountain on which I was standing, was one of my favorite hiking locations for this year's winter. Every time I went up there I tried to outdo the last time - I'm happy to say, I did it. The weather-conditions couldn't have been much better that day. While looking for a suitable foreground I noticed that I wouldn't be able to get it all in with my 24-70 mm lens, so, I went for the panoramic instead of a single frame. I roughly predicted where the sun would set and hoped that the clouds wouldn't cover the horizon before that happened. It turned out to be one of the most amazing sunsets I've seen so far.

It took my MacBookPro about 5 days (not in total, but many, many hours) to stitch it all together, because it couldn't handle 3 Gigapixel at once I soon came to notice. In the end though, it got it done - piece by piece. The picture is also a timeblend, for all who might have wondered. Capturing 158 manually focused photos took me about 15-30 minutes, the same time it took the sun to set and the clouds to light up.
