Shelter of Autumn

This is proof it pays to have your camera at the ready. On the way to another location, I hit what felt like a jackpot when I spotted this scene along a back country road. This tree was a late turner for fall. It looked so 3-dimensional, even moreso being backlit slightly. The haze and bit of fall color in the hills added depth. And the horses resting under the tree brought it all together. There was actually a white horse too separated from the group. And based on his behavior, was much more sociable. He found his way across the field to me. After sharing my apple we parted ways and I was off to the next location.

Great job, Thomas! Wonderful atmosphere, and you've balanced it all well in the composition.

Cheers! Thanks Chris!

Great shot of an amazing tree and situation. I'm wondering whether it would make sense to flip the photo so that the gree tree is on the right side and to remove the small tree in the right bottom corner (if these operations don't violate your ethical rules for postprocessing).

Why the flip, Andy?

My eye tends to wander away from the tree to the right (and to ignore the horses) and to focus instead of that either on the darker tree trunk in the background or the small tree in the bottom right corner. But maybe this is a silly idea and flipping will not have any positive effect.

I've tried flipping with and without removing the little tree, Andy. I don't think the filp helps, for me anyway. The problem with the small tree for me is mainly that it's transected by the edge of the frame. Ideally, it would be better if it were all in, or left out. But unless you were there...
