Serengeti Snack

We found this African Black Shouldered Kite sitting in the top of a tree in the central Serengeti National Park in Tanzania. She was in the process of gulping down a freshly caught mouse, (or rat - not really sure of the species). Whatever it was, it was gone in an instant. As a side note, the African Black Shouldered Kite actually has bright red eyes. But when swallowing prey, the eyes are momentarily covered by a protective nictitating membrane.

I took the image with a Canon 7D Mark II with an EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens with a 1.4X III teleconverter. The exposure settings were 1/2000 sec, f/8.0, ISO 640, 560 mm, hand-held.
