Normally, the "small rains" in Tanzania start in November. The rains fall mostly as afternoon showers, with lots of sun in the morning and later on towards evening. But on a visit to the Nyerere National Park in Tanzania in November 2019, the weather was unusually wet. We were fortunate to find this Brown Hooded Kingfisher drying off during a brief sun-break. He was perched on a low branch, and not at all concerned by my presence. I had all the time I wanted to compose the image.
I took the picture with a Canon EOS 7D Mark II, with a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS II USM lens with a Canon 1.4x III tele-converter. The exposure settings were 1/800, f/8, ISO 160, focal length 560 mm, hand held.
