We visited the Maasai Mara North Conservancy in Kenya in November, 2024. The Maasai Mara North Conservancy is located in tribal grazing area owned by the Maasai People, which has been converted into a conservation area. Just after sunrise we encountered a group of three Gray Crowned Cranes. One of the birds began to an elaborate courtship display of wing flapping and vertical leaps. The other two birds followed suit. It was an amazing show that went on for over twenty minutes in the golden early morning light. The birds were far too intent on each other to pay any attention to the vehicle or my camera.
I took the image with a Canon EOS R5 Mark II with a Canon 200-400 F4L IS USM 1.4 EXT lens. The settings were f/5.6, ISO 400, 1/1250 sec, 420 mm, handheld. The image was taken on November 21, 2024.
