This is a drone shot

This is the largest wooden trestle bridge in the world. Abandoned and can be extremely difficult to get to, depending on when you go, it can be deadly.

8 miles through the blistering heat with my friend and fellow YouTuber Jeven Dovey on an abandoned railroad that was built after the tragedy of the Donner Party. Attempting to find alternative routes into San Francisco a rail line was built through Anza Borrego Desert just south of Joshua Tree. As you can imagine going south through the heat posed it's own challenges versus taking Donner Pass. One of those challenges were the almost constant cave ins of the 16 or so tunnels going in and out of this location. This bridge is a result of one collapse that left the hillside too unstable to rebuild.

There were more modern building tactics and supplies available at the time it was built in 1933. They chose wood because it could handle the extreme conditions of the site far better than any other materials available at the time. It was an incredible opportunity and an incredible sight to see.

I have to be completely honest. It stands 186 feet tall and is 750 feet long. The sheer size of it left me almost star struck. I've made it here twice now and both times I struggled with composition because I was just in awe after such an incredible journey. It really is one of the better climaxes to an adventure. An extremely rewarding sight and just so massive it left me distracted and struggling to find my shot.

Exhausted and beat from the journey, I found the drone extremely valuable here as it took a lot of time and effort to walk around this bridge, in the heat, trying to find a satisfying comp. I must confess this image is not my favorite, but it does serve as a reminder that I need to go back soon to get that shot.
