Mountain Mahogany Seeds / Feathery, Furlly and Curly

A member of the rose family, part of its latin name translates to “tailed fruit”. Often in dry or desert areas these types of seeds are planted with assistance of these “tails”. During dry weather the tails twist and tighten as moisture increases the tails unfurl assisting the seed’s planting into the soil, waiting for moisture enough to germinate. These seeds receive the cowboy moniker of “hell feathers” due to irritation to eyes and skin.
