From beneath a thin layer of granulated snow emerge newly germinated seeds of “tumbleweed” aka Russian Thistle. Believe it or not snow has insulation properties especially with these late winter/early spring snows. During this time of year the snow can begin to melt before the sunset and then freeze over at night. Forming kind of nature’s greenhouse protecting and nurturing young seedlings of all kinds for days to come.
The “Trumbleweed” made iconic in the American west through art and film is not native to the Americas but instead Eurasia only beginning to appear in the American west in the late 1800’s.
