10 Tips for Editing Portrait Photos

Lighting, posing, and shooting a portrait is challenging enough, but rarely is the job finished the moment you press the shutter. Almost all portrait images will require some degree of editing to produce a final product. If I had to give a single piece of advice to a new photographer when it came to editing portraits, it would be to simply err on the side of doing less. Editing portraits requires a carefully balanced touch, and if you end up going too far with it, you can end up with subjects who end up looking overly artificial. Be sure to keep zooming out as you are working to keep an eye on the overall progress, and make one final evaluation after you've stepped away from your computer for a few minutes to reset your eyes.
