No doubt, your first shoot can feel quite daunting, but as Lally details, you will have a lot more confidence if you go in prepared, and your subject will likely feel more at ease as well. This does not mean you need to go in with a totally rigid and comprehensive plan, as that might preclude you from enjoying moments of organic creativity, but taking the time to visit the location beforehand and scout out some good spots for shots as well as taking a good look at where the light falls, particularly in relation to your favorite spots.
