5 Helpful Tips for Better Posing

While things like camera settings and light placement are quantifiable, posing is a bit more subjective and nebulous and thus is often one of the last things photographers really master. If you have been having a bit of trouble improving your posing, this helpful video tutorial will show you five great tips that will advance your images.

Coming to you from Manny Ortiz, this great video tutorial discusses five tips for improving your posing. Posing is something a lot of us struggle with, yet it has a significant impact on our images and is something every portrait, fashion, or wedding photographer needs to master to create consistently compelling and organic photos. If you are new to it and struggling a bit, one thing that can help is to study some of the most popular and effective poses in your genre and memorize them. While working with your subject in the moment is often desirable because it makes the shoot more flowing and produces more organic results, it can put a lot of pressure on you to establish a quick rapport and find creative poses on the spot. Having a few poses you know work well in your back pocket can give you a bit of a safety net to ensure you come home with some keepers and take some pressure off you in the moment. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Ortiz.
