Color Correcting Skin with Makeup

With most things, a great foundation makes for an easier and better process. So, why not start off with makeup for model or actors?

Kaushal with Kaushal Beauty has put together some tips on applying makeup that she has learned by using colors to correct or neutralize different color imperfections in skin. As a photographer, you may be asking, "how does this help me?" Well, this could help you in a few ways. First off, she's touching on color theory. By understanding how to use them, it can help not only in color correction, but help set the mood of your projects. This part can apply to so much more than just the makeup portion of your work.

You can also share this with your models or makeup artist if they are not familiar with color correcting with makeup already. Even though it’s hard to see much of the difference in the video, in person, I am sure you will be able to notice a bigger difference. I did notice some subtle differences after making sure the video was playing at full screen and full quality. Even if you did not have color correction done during the makeup process, this can still be useful in post. There have been many times where I have made some changes to the makeup of a model in my work. As stated before, a good foundation is key and makes it much easier during the editing stages, but when you can't start with a good makeup artist or a model that knows how to apply makeup correctly, you can go in post to make some changes. You can use some of Kaushal’s tips to color correct the model’s skin during your retouching versus saturating the color down. There are many ways to accomplish a task, you just have to find which one works best for you and gives you the results you are looking for.
