A Look at Some Common Beginner Portrait Photography Mistakes

Portrait photography is one of the most popular genres out there, and it brings its own challenges and pitfalls. If you are new to portraiture and would like to improve your work, check out this fantastic video tutorial that details some common mistakes beginners make and what you can do to fix them or avoid them entirely in the first place.

Coming to you from Photo Genius, this great video tutorial discusses some common beginner mistakes in portrait photography and how to fix them. One of the most common I see that is easy to miss in the moment is not checking the background. It is understandable, as your attention is mostly devoted to the subject and ensuring you have a great pose and expression and sharp a photo, but be sure you take just a second to scan the entire frame. Often, you will see a distraction behind the subject that you had not noticed before and that would have made your life much more difficult in post, or you might find that your composition is a bit lacking and could use some adjustment. Check out the video above for the full rundown.
