One of the most common I see that is easy to miss in the moment is not checking the background. It is understandable, as your attention is mostly devoted to the subject and ensuring you have a great pose and expression and sharp a photo, but be sure you take just a second to scan the entire frame. Often, you will see a distraction behind the subject that you had not noticed before and that would have made your life much more difficult in post, or you might find that your composition is a bit lacking and could use some adjustment.
