A Remarkable Photo Book 12 Years in the Making

About six years ago, we wrote about this incredible project by Environmental Artist and Activist Jack Gescheidt. Now, The TreeSpirit Project is being turned into a hard cover coffee table book, with over 175 pages of 120 high-resolution photos.

Gescheidt's project features "humans, nude and vulnerable, in harmony with trees," none of whom are paid models. The images are arresting and require long looks to really digest. After 12 years of making such images, he has turned his attention to a large coffee table book that features many two-page spreads and is meant "to stir the senses and touch the hearts of tree and nature lovers, to remind us all that we used to play in and around trees as children, before we became busy adults." His imagery certainly captured my imagination and got me thinking about the human-environment connection more.

The book is meant to highlight the value of trees in modern society and promote their preservation. In this spirit, the book will include behind the scenes stories of the making of the photos and experiences of the participants. Be sure to check out the project's Kickstarter to pick up your copy!

Because naked people in trees says...um, what is the point of the naked people?

I love trees and naked women, but why are they together in this instance?

And what is it about the art world that causes naked people to assume odd positions?

And yet....printed on dead trees

Actually, he left the first publisher because they refused to print on recycled paper.

I dont like the work anyway, regardless of what it is printed on. Its subjective as photography is, technically great, artistically I just don't like it,.

He's adamant about using 100% post-consumer-waste recycled paper. :)
