The Canon EOS R5 and Sony a1 are the talk of the town right now, with their 8K video capabilities turning a lot of heads. If you are wondering which one is right for your own work, check out this great video review that takes a deep look at the video capabilities of both cameras.
Coming to you from Tony & Chelsea Northrup, this excellent video review takes a look at the video capabilities of the Sony a1 and Canon EOS R5 and all the details surrounding them. Both the a1 and R5 offer 8K video capabilities, and while some may see it as overkill, there is something to be said for the flexibility that 8K offers, such as the ability to crop in to 4K in post as needed, whether to create movement effects or simply to zoom in. Of course, the downside is the increased storage and processing power needed to handle such footage. Beyond that, I have to say I'm highly impressed by the high ISO capabilities of both cameras. Even just a few years ago, the thought that you could get usable video from ISO 16,000 would have sounded absurd, but both cameras put out impressive footage.
Check out the video above for the full rundown from the Northrups.
There's no video.
Thank you! Fixed.
Who here has an 8K monitor?
Man I can't even afford a decent 4k monitor :'[
Didn't watch the video but on the screenshot they both look like either drunk or on drugs?
Strictly commercial
I stopped watching or reading anything by these two clowns ever since they trolled Steve McCurry.
Is this a sponsored post?
No
It might be that they felt it necessary to try an trash the reputation of another photographer.......
No it appears he's just another internet troll. Best to just ignore. They add nothing but acrimony.
I do not know the reason for the animosity. I found the video interesting, informative, and well done.
Butch
The video was strictly commercial BS. There was zero content of value. And for what it's worth, this is the first time I've seen, or heard of them. Self aggrandizing, narcissists....
I stopped watching the Northrups when I read that Sony gave them an all expense paid trip to Vegas to review their camera. http://taipeigeek.blogspot.com/2018/03/tony-northrup-and-the-problematic...
That doesn't invalidate his response, it only means there are more photographer's on YouTube who you should be wary of trusting.
After reading the comments I had to check and make sure I wasn't on DPReview! LOL!!! Where's my popcorn???!!!
Can someone ELI5 why everyone hates these guys? I feel like a missed something juicy.
Where should we start?
1) They are drunk from a Canon party and state that the Canon R is the best thing since slice bread and then the next day, it becomes the worst camera because it corrupted several video files. (I believe it was from user error)
2) Many of the videos have made up facts that can be easily checked that they are made up. They don't bother to check their videos for accuracy.
3) He told everyone to shoot JPEG only.
4) His hit job on Steve Curry.
And the list goes on and on
And then there is the video that says ISO is fake. He starts by comparing different camera brands and how a different ISO is required to get the same exposure. When you use different lenses that might be the issue, f/stop on a camera is a theoretical value that is computed. It is not a measured value. That is why in cinema they use T stops, more accurate and you know exactly that two lenses will have the same exposure at a given T stop.. He is a dumb a$$.
Thank you!
Most people don't even need 8K
