How Good Is This Affordable Ultra-Wide Prime Lens?

Viltrox has continued to establish themselves as one of the leading companies in the industry when it comes to competitively priced lenses that still offer the sort of performance and image quality that pros and advanced hobbyists require. The AF 16mm f/1.8 FE promises to continue that tradition while also offering a range of innovative features in tandem with an ultra-wide focal length and very wide aperture, making it an appealing lens to a wide range of creatives. This great video review takes a look at the how it holds up in practice.

Coming to you from Stefan Malloch, this excellent video review takes a look at the Viltrox AF 16mm f/1.8 FE lens. Despite its affordable price of $549, the 16mm f/1.8 still comes with an impressive range of features, including:

  • 15 elements in 12 groups
  • Fast and quiet STM autofocus motor
  • Minimum focusing distance of 0.27 meters
  • Silent, step-less aperture ring for video work
  • HD Nano Multi-Layer Coating for fewer flares and reduced ghosting and improved contrast
  • LCD information screen
  • USC-C port for firmware updates
  • All-metal construction and weather-resistant design

Altogether, the lens looks like another winner from Viltrox. Check out the video above for Malloch's full thoughts on the lens.

I am not familiar with Viltrox, but now I want to look into their lens lineup and see what all they have. If their prices are right down there with Laowa (which I love) then I will probably be buying some Viltrox lenses. Thanks for making me aware of this manufacturer!
