A Review of the New Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD Lens

The new Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD is one of the more interesting lenses to come along in a while, offering an intriguing focal length range that sacrifices reach at the long end compared to a 24-70mm for the ability to go wider than the usual 24mm, putting it somewhere between a standard zoom and an ultra-wide angle zoom. This excellent video review takes a look at the lens and the sort of performance and image quality you can expect from it in usage.

Coming to you from Julia Trotti, this great video review takes a look at the new Tamron 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD lens for Sony E mount cameras. At 12.9 oz (365 g), this lens is fairly portable, and it also brings a number of great features, including:

  • Minimum focusing distance of 6.7 inches for a maximum magnification of 1:3.8
  • Rapid zoom ring with 65° of travel
  • Moisture-resistant construction
  • Fluorine coating on front element for protection against dust, moisture, and fingerprints
  • Compatibility with Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF
  • VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor for fast and quiet autofocus

Altogether, the 20-40mm f/2.8 Di III VXD looks like one of the more interesting lenses to come out in a while. Check out the video above for Trotti's full thoughts on the lens.
