A Review of the Voigtlander Nokton 21mm f/1.4 Lens

Voigtlander is known for making all-metal manual focus lenses that offer durable construction and sharp and contrasty images. The Nokton 21mm f/1.4 Aspherical lens is another in that tradition, and it offers a unique focal length paired with a very wide maximum aperture. This great video review takes a look at the lens and the sort of performance and image quality you can expect from it in practice.

Coming to you from Christopher Frost, this excellent video review takes a look at the Voigtlander Nokton 21mm f/1.4 Aspherical lens. 21mm is quite the interesting focal length, offering a wide angle of view, but one that won't bring too much distortion with it, and with that f/1.4 maximum aperture, the lens is quite versatile. Alongside that, it features:

  • 13 elements in 11 groups
  • Two aspherical elements for reduced distortion and increased sharpness
  • Three partial dispersion elements for reduced chromatic aberrations and increased clarity
  • Floating element system for high image quality throughout focusing range
  • 12-blade diaphragm for particularly smooth bokeh
  • De-clickable aperture for video work
  • Electronic contacts for EXIF data transfer and use of advanced camera functions, such as focus magnification

Check out the video above for Frost's full thoughts on the lens.

I did just purchase this lens in Sony E mount . I almost went with the M mount and adapted to my Sony and Nikon Z mount . Then after getting a Sony E to Nikon Z electronics adapter and seeing it will transfer focus acquisition I went with the Sony E mount . I now also will get a closer focus . Maybe I guess because I have M to Z close focus Voigtlander adapters also .
I’m very excited about getting this lens . I just ordered the Voigtlander 65mm f/2.0 also to round out me a Sony E and Nikon Z kit I can adapt all but the Voigt 65 in Z mount .
I have the Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5 , Voigt 21mm f/1.4 , Nikon 28mm f/2.0 ai , Nikkor OC 35mm f/2.0 Voigt 40mm f/1.2 ,Nikkor 55mm f/1.2, Voigt 65mm f/2.0 Voigt 75mm f/1.5 and Leica 90mm f/2.0 , Nikkor 135 f/2.0, Nikkor 180mm ais f/2.8 . What a good manual focus kit for the two camera systems. I can mix and match as I want and or need . There is enough there to shoot different characteristics as I need or a client may need . So pumped for the future.
