What It's Like Shooting One of the Most Ridiculous Lenses Ever Made

As far as ridiculous lenses go, the Sigma APO 200-500mm f/2.8 EX DG probably takes the cake in both design and price. As such, it is exceedingly rare to see a photographer get their hands on one, but that is just what this video shows, and it is quite interesting to see this beast in action and what it can do.

Note: there is a bit of NSFW humor at the beginning of this video; skip to 0:42 to see the main content.

Coming to you from Tom Calton, this fun video follows him as he shoots with the Sigma APO 200-500mm f/2.8 EX DG. As far as f/2.8 lenses go, they almost always top out at 400mm primes, a lens design that is priced in the five digits and almost exclusively used by professional sports and wildlife photographers. As far as f/2.8 zoom lenses, focal lengths normally top out around 200mm, with the occasional 120-300mm f/2.8 design. And so, for an f/2.8 lens to hit 500mm, let alone for it to be a zoom is simply absurd. Of course, for the ludicrous design, there is a price tag to match, as the lens normally went for around $25,000 new. Check out the video above to see it in action!

The sole "verified buyer" review of this lens on B&H Photo says the lens is practically pocketable compared to his Canon 1200mm f/8... Which begs the question...

"Is that a Sigma APO 200-500mm f/2.8 f/2.8 EX DG in your pocket, or are you just pleased to see me?"

(With a wink to Mae West)

That NSFW part is probably the best part of the video, made me laugh out loud.
