While 24-70mm lenses are generally the workhorses of choice for a lot of photographers, many others prefer a 24-105mm for the extra reach, even if it means losing a stop of aperture. Canon shooters have a wide range of options when it comes to 24-105mm lenses, and this excellent video comparison takes a look at three of them, the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM, RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, and the RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM.
Coming to you from Gordon Laing, this awesome video compares three Canon 24-105mm lenses: the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS II USM, RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, and the RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM. While 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses generally get more attention, if you do not need the f/2.8 aperture, a 24-105mm can be a better choice, especially if you are traveling or looking for a versatile walkaround lens. In fact, my favorite lens for years was my original EF 24-105mm f/4L. It was never the sharpest, but it produced perfectly decent images, was reliable as could be, wasn't particularly heavy, and offered a much more versatile focal length range than a 24-70mm lens. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Laing.
I have the 24-105 f4L and I love it for it’s versatility and I’m pleased with the results. Pity the flat cable inside the lens broke, so now I have to get it fixed. Not as reliable as can be..
