The Fro’s Return of Typewriters

Jared Polin, best known as “The Fro,” recently released his latest Froto Story, where he visits Philly Typewriter in hopes of getting a family heirloom, a Remington Standard typewriter, back in working condition. Polin gives viewers a glimpse of his process for planning and executing the photo story.

The third part of the Froto Series, Polin realized the potential for a great photo story after meeting with shop owner Bryan Kravitz, and learning more about the history and recent resurgence of the typewriter. As always, the FroKnowsPhoto team does a great job capturing the story while Polin walks viewers through the shooting process. One excellent point Polin offers is making it a point to capture images for use on social media. On this project, Polin sees an efficient method in capturing the variety of typewriters that make their way through the shop for use on Instagram. Always work smarter, not harder!

Make sure to check out the other Froto Stories Polin has released. The first video, Photographing the Grand Canyon, is closing in on a quarter of a million YouTube views to date and has been well received. While I know the amount of work it takes to produce projects of this scale is quite a time consuming, I look forward to what the Fro Knows Photo team comes up with next!

Fro knows typewriter ribbon...

On so many levels that was one of the most interesting videos I have seen in a really long time.

Unlike much of today-some beautiful old machines engineered to last and a well crafted story.

That was really romantic.

As someone who frequently likes to tinker with mechanical things, the positioning of those magnetic dishes for screws and such is an amazing idea. right in your face, hard to lose.

This is Jared "Fro Knows Typewriters"?
