Of them, I think perhaps the most important is having a good deal of patience. The mistake a lot of newer photographers make is creating images by chasing action. This can sometimes result in good images, but the problem is that in chasing that action, you are not really considering light and composition. By finding an interesting composition with good light and waiting for action to develop in it, you have a better chance of creating a more complete image. This is why so many street photographers rely on rangefinders so that they can not only see what is happening in the frame, but what is happening outside it as well.
