I am really enjoying this quality images from low quality gear thing that has been going on around here lately. Check out Photo 54 shooting with just 1 light.
i have got to say tho, the iphone photoshoot is amazing because the end results are magazine/ gallery worthy. while the end results of this video are... a good start for beginners =)
(please don't hurt me! =p)

Nice video guys - funny and informative. Now I know what I've been missing on my shoots - a human flash stand :)

Thanks for highlighting our video!
A couple of you asked about the softbox. I actually went into detail about it, but it didn't make the final cut. It's the ALZO Porta Flash Speedlight Softbox. I bought it from Amazon for about $60. I wanted something really easy to setup and use. It comes with the bracket to hold the flash and attach it to a light stand.
Let me know if you have anymore questions. I plan on being quite active with this community.

They could have done so much more with the location.
Why under expose the background so much in the first scenario? the light coming through the ceiling looks amazing. I think the shots need to be stronger to get the point of shooting on a budget across. The end results look like they were done on a budget.
very nice video, for a very realistic scenario.
