No doubt, it is fun to learn about cameras, lenses, and editing techniques, and learning how to properly use a C-stand or clamp might not be as immediately alluring, but it is just as important when it comes to working in a studio and accomplishing what you need to. This fantastic video tutorial will show you how to use a variety of common studio equipment effectively.
Coming to you from John Gress, this great video tutorial will show you how to use different pieces of essential studio equipment. Not only will this make your working life easier, it will also keep you safe. Putting heavy equipment on stands can be dangerous if you do not properly secure it, as it can tip over and strike someone, or cause other issues. For example, when I got my first heavy-duty C-stand, I somehow messed up the locking mechanism, and the stand collapsed while I was trying to move it. Suffice to say that the massive pinch and weeks of purple skin were enough to ensure that I never made that mistake again! I read the manual very carefully after that incident. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Gress.
I never understand why people don't use the grip head on a C-stand boom arm.
