DJI's Professional Digital FPV System : Will This Change FPV Droning for Good?

FPV drones have been on the rise the past few years but have had some minor issues with long range transmission and video signal. With DJI's new digital FPV system, there is a good chance all of that can change and more people can easily adapt to a new type of flying.

For years, FPV pilots have been flying with analog signal. If you have used it before, you probably know it isn't the most reliable thing in the world but it still gets the job done. With static and cutout during a flight, the pilot may not be able to reach their full potential whether they are racing or just out for a freestyle. Over the past six months I've been doing FPV, I see that if you wanna fix a problem like this, you need to be willing to learn a whole bunch of new technology. This can become really stressful if you don't make the time to learn and fully understand what you are doing. However, DJI is here to create a new solution.

Above you can see an example of the difference between the digital FPV system (left) and the analog FPV system (right). To keep things short and simple, DJI basically created the TBS Crossfire plus an incredible VTX so you get the best of both worlds. You can record 1080p at 60fps or 720p at 120fps directly to the digital VTX all while flying up to 4km away. With anti-interference and super low latency at 7ms and 28ms at a longer range, this system pretty much beats out most available analog FPV systems on the market today.

I think this is quite an interesting product for DJI to offer and I am glad that they came out with something for FPV pilots. I've been flying DJI drones for over four years now and can say that I am in love with how well their technology works. I never really have to worry about range or video signal when flying DJI but the real question is, how well will the new DJI FPV system work with someones current FPV setup?

I am interested in seeing some reviews on this product and learning a little bit more on how to install it. There certainly seems to be a ton of potential for a product like this but since its so new, it is hard to determine how "good" it will actually be.

Priced at $819 you can get the DJI FPV Experience Combo. If you want to get the controller as well, you can get the DJI Fly More Combo (adding the DJI controller) priced at $929.

I am a huge nerd when it comes to drones and have been flying for over 4 years. I enjoy doing aerial photography as my personal work but shoot tons of video for work as well. I am a part of Simply Visual Productions and Simply Sounds, working my way into an industry I couldn't be happier to be a part of.

Very interesting system...can't wait to see how it stacks up

I can't use drones where I live. Not because of the law (well sort of), but because we have a breeding pair of Peregrine Falcons who are not amused when I use my drones. My question is how quite is this?

I applaud you for not flying your drone when you know that it's disturbing wildlife. 99% of drone owners don't care so it's worth highlighting that you are a good man! ;)

Thank you for those kind words.

Well I'd imagine that the FPV goggles and transmitter/receiver don't make any noise. It's more about the drone you're using it with?

Yes, thanks for that; I'm a bit slow sometimes LOL!

It's not a "drone" so it doesn't make any noise. It's an HD video and RF link system that is installed on an existing racing/freestyle quadcopter, fixed wing planes.

Ok; thanks for clearing that up, I was a bit confused.

Drones are dying, getting killed off by regulations and new laws. No beaches, state parks, banned in cities, not worth it anymore. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AB0FFuvanQ

Another big reason to stop listening to youtubers praising new stuff. They get it for free and in the case of drones I doubt any of them are 107 certified to even fly a drone. That and I only see them showing it off but never using anything they gush over.

I watch only products videos that are not sponsored and in which the Youtuber clearly says "I bought this with my own money". But as you say, how do we know if he's not expecting to get paid soon indeed, and will therefore not be totally honest in his review.

I guess I'll find out soon. I have just bought the DJI Osmo Pocket (I know, that's not a drone), based on such reviews. Let's see if I can get anywhere near the results that these non-sponsored Youtubers show and how big are the hurdles that are not mentioned in those videos :)

So, I have two issues:
1) size: the air unit is too large for my favorite kwads.
2) price: this increases the price of each of my quads significantly.

Right, after getting my hands on a unit and trying it... Turns out it's a pretty impressive system. I don't see it being used in every quad for everyone but it does seem like a good option for a favorite quad if you want to be able to see a bit clearer in the goggles :)

the price is still keeping me from buying.

Maybe light enough to be added on a Mavic Pro 2 and using the dual operator existing capabilities to the next level!

not a bad idea right there. I was thinking of getting it onto my inspire for a better FPV cam than what it has

And to think, my mother told me playing video games was a waste of time.

Never a waste! In fact Lee, we need to get you on the DRL simulator so we can fly together
