FPV drones have been on the rise the past few years but have had some minor issues with long range transmission and video signal. With DJI's new digital FPV system, there is a good chance all of that can change and more people can easily adapt to a new type of flying.
For years, FPV pilots have been flying with analog signal. If you have used it before, you probably know it isn't the most reliable thing in the world but it still gets the job done. With static and cutout during a flight, the pilot may not be able to reach their full potential whether they are racing or just out for a freestyle. Over the past six months I've been doing FPV, I see that if you wanna fix a problem like this, you need to be willing to learn a whole bunch of new technology. This can become really stressful if you don't make the time to learn and fully understand what you are doing. However, DJI is here to create a new solution.
Above you can see an example of the difference between the digital FPV system (left) and the analog FPV system (right). To keep things short and simple, DJI basically created the TBS Crossfire plus an incredible VTX so you get the best of both worlds. You can record 1080p at 60fps or 720p at 120fps directly to the digital VTX all while flying up to 4km away. With anti-interference and super low latency at 7ms and 28ms at a longer range, this system pretty much beats out most available analog FPV systems on the market today.
I think this is quite an interesting product for DJI to offer and I am glad that they came out with something for FPV pilots. I've been flying DJI drones for over four years now and can say that I am in love with how well their technology works. I never really have to worry about range or video signal when flying DJI but the real question is, how well will the new DJI FPV system work with someones current FPV setup?
I am interested in seeing some reviews on this product and learning a little bit more on how to install it. There certainly seems to be a ton of potential for a product like this but since its so new, it is hard to determine how "good" it will actually be.
Priced at $819 you can get the DJI FPV Experience Combo. If you want to get the controller as well, you can get the DJI Fly More Combo (adding the DJI controller) priced at $929.
