With approximately 3.4 million cats entering animal shelters every year in the U.S. alone, the need for adoption is stronger than ever. That's why Fashion Stylist Ryen Blaschke and Commercial Photographer Shaina Fishman teamed up for "Cats in Hats," a wonderful series featuring rescue cats and kittens that are currently up for adoption.
It's no secret that good photography of shelter pets make them more likely to be adopted. With many of the nation's animal shelters overfilled and underfunded, well-crafted campaigns that show the beauty and heart of these animals are invaluable. Shaina Fishman and Ryen Blaschke, both of whom are involved in animal rights advocacy and rescue, have taken this to its pinnacle, creating a set of beautifully shot photos featuring rescue cats and kittens in handmade costumes designed by Blaschke. All the costumes are based on fictional characters or taken from real-life examples. Do you recognize all of them?
After each of the costumes were made by Blaschke, the cats (from Brooklyn Animal Action) were then shot in their respective foster homes by Fishman. With Halloween coming this weekend, hopefully, these well-crafted and absolutely adorable pictures can inspire people to go to their nearest animal shelter and bring home a forever friend.
