Zeke Kamm, a veteran filmmaker and creator of the Aviator Camera Gear, has spent the last year creating a series of informational videos designed to give aspiring filmmakers a great educational reference on the gear that is often used. The first two videos have dropped, with more to come.
Zeke has several other videos lined up, with a plan to release one a week for the next 4-5 weeks. If any of the topics are in areas that you aren't an expert on, I'd definitely recommend giving them a watch– free education with a production value at this level is always welcome. But why did he want to make these? Zeke shared with me the following:
I'm frequently asked the same general type gear questions. The internet is overflowing with information, too much information, and I realized that beginners and even working filmmakers don't have a simple, clear, unified source to quickly obtain a general overview of why they would use one type of gear or another for a specific situation, or in some cases why they would even use a certain type of gear. That's why I've produced the video series: "The Gear Dictionary."
In the first video, Zeke goes over gimbal-based stabilizers, specifically the MoVi, but a number of speaking points can easily be related to other systems like the Ronin. In the second video, as you'll see below, Zeke dives into audio gear, and speaks to what different kinds of microphones are often used, and provides audio samples of each.
The next videos being released are to cover topics like cine lenses, light modifiers, filter systems, and more. Keep up to date by checking out Aviator Camera Gear on YouTube.
