Want to Start Your Own Photography Business? Here's What Your Days Will Look Like

Starting your own photo or video business can seem like an alluring thing: you set your own hours, you do what you love, etc. However, it's not all sunshine and rainbows, and this great video takes a very realistic look at what a typical day is like and what you can expect.

Coming to you from Scott McKenna, this great video details what an average day in his life is like as a business owner. When I first started my own business, a friend of mine laughed and said: "it's great, right? You get to pick which 16 hours a day you work!" Of course, he was exaggerating a bit, but his point was valid still; taking on all the responsibilities of a business yourself leads to a lot of work — work that you have to be very disciplined in accomplishing on time and addressing regularly. McKenna offers some great tips to help you do this. I particularly appreciated his idea of always scheduling your time, even if it's not something like a client meeting but simply editing blocks and the like. This helps quite a bit in ensuring you address everything you need to. Check out the video above for more.

Great vid!

Wondering what calendar program he is using?

fanatic cal 2? maybe

Schedule time to fix focus on camera. That was hard to watch like that.

Ill save you some time: his day ends at 4:25. The rest he kinda rambles. Save you even more time-- Get a schedule and stick to it.

Tying an imperative for profit to the thing I love has always seemed like a really great way to suck every last drop of joy from it. However, business is business, and photography is in no way unique.
