How to Create a Spooky Composite Image for Halloween

Love it or hate it, Halloween is right around the corner and it’s the perfect time of the year for spooky costumes, creative photography, and in the case of this video, some slick composite work in Photoshop.

The video’s dramatic production aside, 'tis the season for some scary photographs, and you don't have to be a cosplay expert or Photoshop master to create your own. In this video, Kavan from PhotoForge goes over how he created a couple of spooky Halloween-themed images using basic photography techniques, a pumpkin head carved at home, a costume nearly anyone could piece together, and some handy composite work via Photoshop. Note that while the use of strobes or speedlights could provide even more creative options while making images like these, there appears to be no expensive lighting equipment used in the creation of these images.

There’s typically a good amount of spooky images shared here among the Fstoppers community by the talented and creative photographers who make this place what it is. I’m hoping this year will be no different. Did you create any images for Halloween last year or have plans on doing so this year? Share in the comments below.
