How To Create Supernatural Eyes in Photoshop

In this video tutorial watch as Abbey Esparza shows you how to create supernatural eyes in Photoshop. This is a great tutorial for anyone who wants to create creepy conceptual images.

In the video, Esparza starts by explaining that this effect works with the doll effect from her previous tutorial. And that we will not only be learning the eye effect but also how to add the cool color grade that goes with it. Esparza's color grade technique is definitely not one for the faint-hearted with many color lookups used in conjunction. But she does detail each and every one. One trick that is useful, is to turn off all the adjustment layers when creating the doll effect as Photoshop may start to lag, and we do not want that. Do your eye effect and then you can switch the color grade back on.

As Esparza continues, she first explains that this eye effect can be used on many different types of models including ghouls, demons cyborgs, including creepy witch dolls. The technique in itself is pretty easy to do and should not be hard for others to understand. You basically create a new layer, pick the color of your choice — green or red usually works best. Paint this directly on to the eye and mask away gently with a layer mask. All you have to do then is add a secondary color on top of the first, using a blend mode.

This tutorial is great for beginner and intermediate Photoshop artists who want to start trying out conceptual editing techniques in their Photoshop portraits. These techniques are really easy to do, and anyone should be able to follow along. So have a go and get stuck in.
