10 Steps for Creating a Black and White Image in Lightroom

Sometimes, a black and white edit can be what really breathes life into a photo. However, a good black and white edit is about a lot more than simply pulling all of the color out of an image. This excellent video tutorial will show you 10 steps to creating a compelling black and white image using Lightroom.

Coming to you from Anthony Morganti, this great video tutorial will show you a 10-step process to creating black and white images using Lightroom. If you are ever feeling a bit stuck with an image that you know has a lot of potential, changing it to black and white can often be the ticket. Often, the advice I try to follow is that color is the best choice for conveying information, while black and white is the right way to convey emotion. Certainly, that is not a hard and fast rule, but it is a good general guideline to start with. Personally, I find that black and white edits can be a bit more tolerant of higher levels of contrast, texture, and clarity, and it can help to make the photo a bit more dramatic, so don't be afraid to play with those too. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Morganti.

not 10 steps
but a bunch of processes
some of which may well be irrelevant and others may be accomplished in a lot less drama
