Coming to you from Maria Perez with B&H Photo and Video, this excellent video tutorial will show you 10 tips for improving as a photographer. One of the most important things you can do is simply get out on a regular basis to practice and experiment. Just like studying for a test in school, you will likely experience much better results if you do a little bit of work every day instead of trying to cram everything in all at once. And do not be afraid to experiment. Not only will this help you to find, develop, and refine your creative voice, being willing to challenge yourself and push through difficult scenarios will make you more able to handle whatever situations you might encounter in the future.

"Challenge yourself by using a prime lens to force yourself to have to get further or closer to your subject to find that perfect shot."
I think that can also be done using a zoom lens. Challenge yourself to only take some shots at a certain focal length using your zoom lens, like at 35mm or 50mm or 85mm for example with a 24-105mm zoom. Set it to a focal length and then move closer or further for the composition.
