Perhaps the most salient tip for me was moving around the subject once you have found a good pose. We often park ourselves in one position when working in a studio and direct our subject to move into the pose we are looking for in a way that works with the lighting at hand, then telling them to move again when we want to get another angle. A professional model might have no problem recreating that pose after adjusting their position, but most normal people don't practice posing and don't have the fine awareness of their body to precisely recreate a look, so often, it'll actually be easier for both you and the subject if you are the one doing the moving, plus it'll help you come away with more looks.
