Coming to you from James Popsys, this excellent video discusses five tips to improve your post-processing. Of the tips, I think one of the most salient for beginner photographers in particular is the importance of using a subtle touch and not going overboard with your edits. As powerful (and often automated and efficient) as editing tools are these days, it can be very easy to overcook an image, and while you are in the midst of the process, you might not notice that you have gone too far. I find it helps to step away for a few minutes after finishing an edit before I complete the final export and return with a fresh set of eyes to make sure I haven't missed anything or gone too far; I will often make a few tweaks or back off the edit after doing this.
