A Beginner's Guide to Using Lightroom

Lightroom is the program of choice for tons of photographers for cataloging and editing their photos, and it is a multidimensional application with a lot of different features and capabilities. If you are new to using Lightroom, this excellent video will show you the ins and outs of the important aspects of the application and have you up and running in no time.

Coming to you from Anthony Morganti, this helpful video will give you a good introduction to Lightroom, including importing, the Library module, non-destructive editing, processing images, and exporting. A lot of people think of Lightroom for cataloging and Photoshop for editing, but you might be surprised by just how much editing you can do in Lightroom; in fact, you frequently will not even need Photoshop for a lot of images depending on the genre(s) you work in. A good habit to get into right off the bat is keywording, as this will build another layer of organization into your images and make it much easier to navigate your catalog as it grows. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Morganti.

It's always interesting to see how the various YouTube gurus go about presenting how-to videos. I really like this presenter's voice, it's warm and friendly and what he has to say is really pretty good and the quality is excellent, though I have some issues with the order in which he chooses to present his content. This is a common problem with many YouTubers who may not have an educational/pedagogical background.

My advice would be to give the basic bare-bones hints first with no frills, extras, self-promotion, or add ons, these can be given after the basic hint.

Try it...
Basic bare bones hint.
Hint extensions
Hint extras

...then hit the self-promotion. People will love you for it........go on give it a try.
