A Complete Guide to Retouching Lips Using Photoshop

With so much attention paid to retouching the skin, hair, and eyes, it can be easy to overlook a person's lips when you're editing a portrait. This great video will give you a complete guide to creating picture-perfect lips using Photoshop.

Coming to you from Unmesh Dinda with PiXimperfect, this helpful video will show you everything you need to know to create top-notch lips when editing a portrait using Photoshop. It's easy to overlook the lips a bit in your focus to clear away flyaway hairs, perfect the skin, and make the eyes pop, but they're an important feature of the face, and giving them a bit of extra attention can really help a portrait pop. While the model here is wearing lipstick, if your subject isn't, I often find it helps to add a bit more red to their lips. To do this, simply add a hue/saturation adjustment layer, increase the red saturation (you may want to darken or lighten the reds slightly to taste as well), then use a layer mask to constrain the adjustment solely to the lips. Just be careful not to go overboard with the effect. Check out the video above for the full rundown of all the techniques.

Seems extremely easy to overdo it into fake plastic territory ...

Ugh...how fake. Terrible example.
