The Crucial Importance of Music in Film and How to Use It

It's pretty hard to overstate the importance of the relationship between music and imagery in video work. When the music isn't firing on all cylinders, it can ruin what's being shown on screen and severely detract from the overall experience. This helpful video will show you how to find and match music for your video work.

Coming to you from Film Riot, this awesome video explores the importance of finding the proper music for your video work and matching it to the visuals. As the video shows, there's usually more than one solution to the problem of finding the correct music, and it all comes down to what you're trying to convey with the total product. A lot of the time, visuals (take the drone shot in the video, for example) can be unclear in what they're trying to convey; this isn't an inherent fault, just the simple fact that without dialogue, characters, or a soundtrack, a single shot can mean any number of things. It's then, of course, that the audience turns to other sources of information, namely the audio, and it's then that you have to carefully consider a myriad of properties of the music.
