One that I have gotten in the habit of in recent years is keeping my camera in burst mode and continuous autofocus between shoots or when I am out and about. Sure, there are times when I absolutely do not need to shoot in bursts, and I'll switch it back for those, but as the video details, you never know when some quick action might develop in front of you, and if your camera is not ready for it, the seconds you spend changing the settings may cost you. Sure, it might be annoying to have to change the settings back and forth more or you might come home with more images than you needed, but I think it is worth it knowing you are ready for something unexpected whenever.
