How to Use Color to Make Your Photos Stand Out

Color is one of the most powerful tools photographers have at their disposal, but it often does not get the kind of attention it deserves. If you want to expand your creative palette and help your photos stand out more, check out this helpful video tutorial that discusses a variety of different color schemes you can use to create more powerful images.

Coming to you from Julia Trotti, this great video tutorial discusses a variety of different color schemes you can use to create more balanced and eye-catching photos, including techniques like complementary colors, triadic schemes, and more. While these might seem a bit contrived or arbitrary, once you learn them, you will start to notice them in a ton of creative work. For example, many directors (such as Wes Anderson) intentionally employ such color schemes in order to create more impactful experiences for their audiences. A great exercise is to find a particularly notable frame from a movie you enjoy, decipher the color palette and/or scheme in use, and try to recreate it in your own work. Not only will this improve your eye, it's a ton of fun! Check out the video above for the full rundown from Trotti.
