Few creative choices have a more significant impact on the final look of your photos than the focal length you decide to use. This excellent video takes a look at the importance of choosing the correct focal length for landscape imagery.
Coming to you from Adam Gibbs, this great video follows him as he tours the Canadian Rockies and discusses the importance of choosing the proper focal length for landscape work. In landscape photography, it is common to default to a wide angle lens simply because most scenes demand one to fit them into the frame, and while that can certainly make for great images, you might be missing out on numerous creative opportunities if you do not also embrace longer focal lengths. In particular, a telephoto lens can allow you to really pick out individual elements in the scene and create more abstract images. This can set your work apart from that of others and help you to develop a more unique and memorable style. Check out the video above for the full rundown from Gibbs.
