Learn Capture One’s Basics with Pratik Naik and Get a Chance to Win a Free License

It’s not every day that you get a chance to learn from the best in our industry for free. Even if that’s just a 20-minute long tutorial, there’s always something to take away! Phase One teamed up with retoucher Pratik Naik to offer you a simple and comprehensive video on color toning in Capture One.

In the tutorial, Naik explains how to use almost every Capture One tool that is color related. From the color balance tool to curves and levels, or even local adjustments, you will learn everything you need to know to get the most out of your raw files. While often overlooked, the raw processing part of any workflow is so crucial. If you currently only adjust the exposure, contrast, or black and white sliders, this video will definitely prove you that you can diminish your time in Photoshop by using the power of a tool such as Capture One, especially as settings can be replicated on other images with a single click.

To follow along with Naik, be sure to download Bella Kotak’s raw file. Then, once you get a grasp of the color-editing tools, be creative, and process the file to your liking! When happy with the result, export it and post it on Instagram before 30th March with the hashtag #C1Portrait for a chance to win a free Capture One Pro license. The winner will be curated by Pratik Naik himself.

If you’d like help or feedback from other photographers, be sure to post your edit in the Fstoppers Groups as well and for more details regarding the challenge rules visit Phase One’s website.

I'm in my Capture One trial period and I really like it but there is one major problem I can't fix, my preview window displays my images soft/out of focus. I've changed my default preview size, deleted original previews, even imported the same photo into lightroom to check (they were sharp).

When I zoom in with the loupe they appear sharp, but I regularly like to see my images a bit pulled back while editing to get a sense of the "whole picture" anyone else have a fix to this?? Thanks

While I didn't have this particular issue (I happened to have stripes in the left side of the image), I found that the use of render setting for the preview made a big difference. See if this helps: Go to the Preferences and under the the Tab General switch the hardware acceleration from Auto to Never for the Preview. See if that works for you. You may have to regenerate the previews for your files.

Ed, this is also the major issue I have with C1. I switched from Lr about 5 months ago and do enjoy the program, but I have contacted Phase One about this issue and they have not been able to provide me with a solution that works. The big suggestion was to adjust the preview size but even when I did this, the results were the same. Until I zoom in, I have this nervous feeling that my image is soft. Sorry I don't have a solution.

Yeah I like the color editor so much but the soft previews just make my review process so long since I have to use the loupe to view every single image from a big shoot. After googling a little more into it it seems its been going on for a long time and for Phase One not to address it is bad (or sick).

It doesn't say how many times one may enter though :?

what to do when I want to import images but while pressing the import button I can't see any images neither RAW or JPEG on my PC, just because Capture One doesn't see them.... but they are in the folder....

I don't want to be mean but this is a very low quality raw image; very high ISO for that system, low sharpness that cannot be rescued by processing. Clearly a bad marketing campaign for Phase One.
