Learn Filmmaking in Just a Month

So, you want to learn filmmaking, but you don't want to go to school for years to learn how to do it. This great tutorial will set you up to power through a month of learning both the art and craft of filmmaking, quickly improving your chops.

Learning filmmaking can seem like an impossible mountain to climb: there's a veritable plethora of technical knowledge one must know, and on top of that, there's an entire artistic side too. Getting on a structured curriculum can do a lot to make sure you don't miss anything and that you grow efficiently. As Darius Britt mentions, this is no substitution for a degree program, but this tutorial offers a great jumpstart to get you off and running. For me, the most salient point was the 50/50 rule: one should spend half their time learning and half their time doing. Filmmaking is a very tactile thing, and there's definitely a tendency amongst photographers and videographers to spend all our time reading reviews and tutorials on the Internet, when we should be spending more time getting out and trying what we've learned. So, watch this, then spend the next month making films!

The title of this article, and the article, reminded me of this ⬇️ For those old enough to remember it, I'm sure it will bring a smile to their faces. 😁

Yeah, I think they ripped off the Taxi theme. 😁

Hahaha, I remember these commercials being all over the place when I was a kid. That pamphlet is permanently seared into my memory.

Funny thing is I thought they went out of business before the 80s ended, so it makes sense you remember seeing them. Just came from their site and after ”102 years" they are now no longer offering the course. Apparently they stopped offering it around a year ago.

You started me on the nostalgia thing with your 1993 HD video. 😁
