I think the lighting of this photo is what is holding it back from a higher rating.
In your opinion how could I have improved the lighting of this photo so I can take better photos like this?
I'm guessing that this was a photo that was taken as the moment occurred, so there probably wasn't much that could be done with the available lighting. NOW let's just assume it was possible to control the lighting, perhaps with a flash. I would have under exposed for the background and used a flash or other light source to light the dragonfly. Again I assume, and if my assumption is correct, I understand why the lighting is the way it is. Not saying it was bad but rather saying if the lighting could have been controlled the photo would be even better.
