Is it just me or the focus is on her eyelashes rather than eyes?

I think she has a rather "blurry" Iris. Happened to me a few times before, I thought the image misfocused but it wasn't.

I am no expert on 'blurry' iris, but maybe it is something that I will get to know with experience. :)

I also haven't heard of this, however I do think you're right as there seems to be plenty of DOF since her skin is in good focus and even the earring that is behind her eyes. Do you know if there is a way to sharpen them up?

You could try to get more detail into the iris rather than sharpening the darker edge (which will always be a little blurry). It's something you mostly only notice with very dark eyes, so brightening it up or even introducing some noise can make it appear sharper.
In this very image it doesn't bother me at all. Especially as the catchlights provide enough sharp appearance in the eyes.
