For the ones who will for sure give this a one or a two, please explain why and also, I'd like to see your natural light portraits in the middle of the day, in winter time, just so that you could show me how it's done ;)

Similar to what others have said. Its not a 1 star because thought was put into the composition, in focus and exposed correctly.

I gave you 2 stars because there is nothing very interesting about the photo. The photo would really only hold value to the person who took the photo. If I were trying to get people to hire me as a portrait photographer, this wouldn't be in my portfolio.

I gave it a 2 because its lacking the 'wow' type punch. Yeah its technically good, focus is good, sharpness is good, lens blur fall off is right. composition is average, but there is no impact so would not go into my own portfolio. Hope that helps a little!

Thank you for the explanation, Jay! This is what everyone should do whenever they rate photos (especially when giving a low rating). This way we'd all learn something! Meanwhile, as I suspected, many people gave it a one star rating (although it's clearly not a snapshot), just... because they can :)

Low rating doesn't mean it's a bad photo. Considering the level of difficulty and impact or as Jay said - "wow effect" it's not that good. Technically - ok, but something is missing.

Hi - I gave two stars because although being a nice picture, it would actually "only" work for the person who took it and the subject itselef. In other words, as often said in the ratings later on by Fstoppers crew, this should not be in a photographers portfolio since its scope is too narrow.

I looked through my photos and of course came across several similar pictures. Nothing "Contest" worthy and really only hold value to those that know the subject.

If I were to post a winter portrait in natural light I would stick to golden hour light. I can't see many mid day pictures looking good enough to be "portrait worthy" or higher.

PS, Cute kid, nice for the family
