So, a little bit of a landscape photography adventure from back a year ago in one of Utah's many great National Parks! I had never really been to red rock country before this point and oh boy was I in for a treat. Being able to see it for the first time with snow as well made for some wonderful photos because of the really nice contrasting elements of the warm desert tones and the cooler blue hues of snow in the shade during sunset.
The hike out itself was a bit treacherous. Being about 2-3 miles up the ridge would have been nerve racking on a normal day for someone that isn't great with heights. Considering that the last part of the trail with a 200 foot drop on one side was covered in glazed ice needing crampons to safely navigate made for quite the journey. It had to be done though to make it for sunset at this destination.
Speaking of sunset! The hike to Delicate Arch to catch it during the 'good' light was totally worth it because of the treat the sky had in store for us. I had suspected decent light, but I could not have expected a sunset quite this good. There was just enough of a gap on the horizon for the sun to peak through giving off a wonderful sunburst as well as illuminating the clouds from below. The hues given off had so much range and depth it was unbelievable. Delicate arch is a very popular spot meaning that during good light you can hear the chirping of shutters fluttering away constantly as everyone captures their own postcard images.
