I don't think it's my best photo, but it is certainly the one that sold the most. I think it earned me around 3000$ till now from the following: Licences for calendars, individual print sales through sites like Fineartamerica and Redbubble, sales to home-depos, which sell canvas prints of it. All this is passive income for me, which is quite nice.
And considering the fact that I only took that photo because our flight to Northern Ireland was delayed until the next day back in 2012, I'm very happy that I found this field of sunflowers just a 15 minute drive from home to make up for lost travel day.
It boggles my mind how can these flowers be so well lit if the sun is setting behind them!
I used 2 stop reverse and 2 stop hard GND for the sky. Otherwise either the sky would have been blown out or the blowers pretty dark. Reality lies something in between, but it doesn't look good in print if the flowers don't shine, so using the filters was the way to go for me.
Thanks for the reply. The result is really amazing.
I see this photo on redbubble quite often :)
I love this shot! I'm not surprised it has been licensed so much. Nicely done!
